Times calculated for the Madrid time zone (CET in winter, CEST in summer), the same as Poland and most of central Europe. In the UK, Ireland, Portugal and the Canary Islands, subtract one hour.

The big day of 2027: the eclipse on 2 August

The new moon on 2 August 2027 brings a total solar eclipse, seen as total in southern Spain and as partial across the rest of the country and much of Europe. It falls at Lammas, the festival of the first harvest. If you can, keep that day free.

Equinoxes and solstices in 2027

  • Spring equinox: Saturday 20 March, 21:24
  • Summer solstice: Monday 21 June, 16:10
  • Autumn equinox: Thursday 23 September, 08:01
  • Winter solstice: Wednesday 22 December, 03:41

These are four of the eight festivals of the wheel of the year. The other four (Imbolc, Beltane, Lammas and Samhain) fall in between. I tell you more in the wheel of the year.

How to use each phase, in five minutes

  1. New moon · sow. Write a single intention for the next four weeks.
  2. First quarter · act. Take one small step towards it.
  3. Full moon · release. Write three things you are letting go of and one you are grateful for.
  4. Last quarter · tidy. Review your week and clear away what you don't need.

That's all it takes. What changes things is doing it every month, not doing it perfectly.

I have them all written in my journal, Anahata Sunrise 2027, next to each day: that way the moon reminds me on its own when to sow and when to let go.
